A national patriotic, non-partisan, academy-governed recognition program advancing American artificial intelligence—affirming that the United States should lead and win the global AI race for a more prosperous, free, and secure nation and world. Artificial Intelligence is this generations space race.
Every era defines itself by what it chooses to recognize. From the Academy Awards honoring film, to the early National Information Infrastructure (NII) Awards that recognized the Internet—widely described as the "Oscars of the Internet", and the "Academy Awards of the Information Age."
Now, more than three decades later, for America's 250th year, the America First Academy of Arts & Sciences™ (AFAAS™) presents the National Intelligence Infrastructure Awards™ (NII Awards™)—Honoring The Best of AI™ as a defining platform for recognizing excellence across America's new AI Golden Age.
As recognized in Winning the Race: America's AI Action Plan (The White House, 2025), the United States is engaged in a race to achieve global leadership in artificial intelligence. The nation that develops and applies the world's most advanced AI capabilities will help shape global standards while securing decisive economic, technological, and national security advantages. Just as America won the Space Race and its industrial leadership defined previous eras, leadership in artificial intelligence is equally—if not more—mission-critical to the nation's future strength, security, prosperity, and peace.
Artificial intelligence is poised to become one of the defining infrastructures of the twenty-first century. The NII Awards™ recognize excellence in leadership, innovation, and contribution to the continuing development of the Intelligence Age among those helping build that future.
The NII Awards™ recognize real-world applications and measurable impact across the National Intelligence Infrastructure—highlighting examples of excellence that strengthen America's economic competitiveness, national security, and long-term prosperity.
The NII Awards™ honor excellence in innovative applications that use the National Intelligence Infrastructure to address real-world challenges and deliver enduring measurable impact. The Academy believes that the full promise of artificial intelligence is realized not through technology alone, but through the vision, leadership, and responsible application of that technology in ways that advance cooperation, innovation, and the long-term flourishing of society.
The NII Awards™ seek not only to recognize and advance American excellence in the Intelligence Age, but to help document, preserve, and elevate examples of excellence that may inspire future generations. Through the creation of an enduring institutional record, the Academy seeks to help ensure that important contributions, lessons, and achievements are not lost to time, but remain available as part of our collective inheritance to those who follow.
RECOGNITION CREATES THE MOMENT.
THE RECORD PRESERVES THE MOMENT.
HISTORY ASSIGNS THE MEANING.
STEWARDSHIP CARRIES IT FORWARD.
HONORING AMERICAN EXCELLENCE.
STEWARDED ACROSS GENERATIONS.™
PRESERVING AMERICA'S INSTITUTIONAL MEMORY.
SERVING GENERATIONS YET TO COME.
The National Intelligence Infrastructure Awards™ (NII Awards™) recognize excellence in leadership and the innovative use of America's National Intelligence Infrastructure—the national ecosystem of artificial intelligence technologies, infrastructure, capabilities, and applications powering the future of the U.S. economy, security, innovation, and global leadership.
The NII Awards™ represent a first-of-its-kind effort to use institutional recognition as an instrument of AI public policy — not merely defining what is excellent, but helping define what artificial intelligence is fundamentally for and ultimately meant to advance in service of American society.
This intelligence infrastructure forms the backbone of modern economic strength, national security, and technological leadership in the 21st century.
The program reflects the established national priority to win the AI race and sustain America's global leadership for the next 250 years and beyond.
The NII Awards™ seek not only to recognize excellence in the Intelligence Age, but to help document, preserve, and elevate examples of excellence that may inform and inspire future generations over the next 250 years.
The NII Awards™ are governed by the America First Academy of Arts & Sciences™ (AFAAS™), an independent, non-partisan, academy-governed institution established to recognize enduring excellence, service, and contribution to the American experiment.
Founding support partners may support awareness of the program and encourage participation. They have no role in award selection, judging, recipient determination, category outcomes, or Academy governance.
All recognitions are conferred by the America First Academy of Arts & Sciences™ (AFAAS™) based on consistent, enduring standards designed to ensure long-term credibility beyond any single event, cycle, or individual.
1. Nomination & Submission
Eligible individuals, organizations, and initiatives are identified through nominations and submissions aligned with the NII Awards™ category framework.
2. Independent Review
Submissions are evaluated under the governance of AFAAS™, applying consistent criteria focused on impact, alignment, and contribution.
3. Final Determination
Recognitions are conferred by the Academy based on established, consistent standards and long-term significance, independent of any external influence.
The NII Awards™ categories reflect a national system architecture for AI capability — spanning foundational systems, economic engines, societal domains and strategic priorities.
Each category is designed to maintain coherence around human flourishing, economic competitiveness, national security, free speech, American values, families/workers, and physical/digital infrastructure, progressing logically from foundational domains (Energy, Infrastructure, Business), through societal systems (Health, Education, Community, Family, Entertainment), through public sector and Governance (Government), to strategic and global priorities (Security, Allies, and Frontier).
Collectively, they align with core national priorities across innovation, infrastructure, global leadership, economic competitiveness, and societal impact, reinforcing that AI operates as a multi-dimensional system of national capability essential to sustaining American dominance in AI.
The NII Awards™ are grounded in a simple principle: the highest purpose of artificial intelligence is to advance the well-being, prosperity, and security of the nation — recognizing not technology for its own sake, but rather how AI improves how America works, learns, builds, communicates, and lives.
